PROPHETS AT THE PERIPHERIES
ON 2 February 2024 we celebrate the World Day for Consecrated Life coinciding with the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. The Consecrated Life is a particular way of being in the Church for those who promise or vow the Evangelical Counsels (poverty, chastity and obedience).
JUBILEE 2025 OF CONSECRATED LIFE
THE JUBILEE with the slogan “Pilgrims of hope, on the way of peace” takes the form of a call to consecrated men and women throughout the world to reconciliation, conversion and sacramental penance, as well as to solidarity, justice and joy in God’s service.

WORLD’S FIRST MALARIA VACCINE ROLLOUT BEGINS IN CAMEROON
According to the 2023 World Malaria Report, 249 million malaria cases were reported globally in 2022, including 608 000 deaths; 94 % of those cases were in Africa, which accounted for 95% of the total deaths. Some 78% occurred in children under the age of five.

AN ANGEL OF LIGHT IN THE CHILEAN PRISONS
Being an incarcerated female presents a double predicament. Sr Nelly Leon, a religious member of the Congregation of the Good Shepherd, accompanies and supports imprisoned Chilean women and helps them pursue their reintegration into society once they have been released. Staying with them, inside the penitentiary, during COVID-19, has brought her even closer to the internees and made her an integral part of their lives, bearing testimony to Gospel values.
MISSION MEANS BELIEVING IN OTHERS
Freddie H. Bernardino is a lay missionary from the Philippines, serving at Chikowa, in Zambia, in a mission station entrusted to the Comboni missionaries in 1987. He is a volunteer from Fidesco, a Catholic Non-Government Organization (NGO) based in France, which has been sending volunteers to this mission station for more than ten years. He shares some of his experiences.
BLURRING LINES AND BEING FRIENDS
The community of Sant’Egidio has rapidly become an icon of love and solidarity for the underprivileged in 70 countries where they are currently present. Their members are characterised by a mutual bond of unity as they meet to serve the poor whom they regard as their friends. One of the recent events organized by Sant’Egidio in Pretoria, was Christmas Lunch, where more than 400 meals were offered to the homeless.
