AFRICAN RENAISSANCE AND ECONOMY COURSE
An African Summer School was held from 24 to 28 July 2024 at the Comboni Missionaries’ house in Florence, Italy. The course was aimed at providing a complete and articulated vision of the African continent, debunking stereotypes and promoting a deeper understanding of its complexities.

The academic content focused on African culture, mainly through an intercultural perspective of openness towards knowledge and mutual enrichment. The African Summer School promotes information for a complex and balanced vision of the African continent, especially where critical interpretation of such a vast region of the world — composed of multiple political, economic, social and cultural realities — is inadequate.
The main objective of this academic project is to help free Africa from the common perception of it being a “continent to be saved”. This is achieved in two ways: on the one hand, by supporting the idea of Africa as an extremely rich and potentially interesting area from a cultural, social, economic and commercial point of view; on the other, by starting to stimulate good practices through a set of concrete and self-entrepreneurial development policies, free from attitudes of dependence which tend to be to the detriment of African people in their conscious and sustainable emancipation.
The concept of AFRICAN SUMMER SCHOOL – ELIMU (“Education”, in Swahili language) was born in Florence and was an initiative of the Comboni Missionaries and in collaboration with Afrobrix (Brescia), Fondazione Nigrizia Onlus and Recovery Plan (Florence).
